Barbecue fireplace for do-it-yourself gazebo

A gazebo with a fireplace is an ambitious and interesting idea for a summer resident. Any building associated with guided fire is quite complex and expensive to build. Nevertheless, it brings cosiness and warmth into the room (in the literal and figurative sense), therefore for someone this option is considered possible.

Important: many people understand the fireplace as a structure differently. In this publication, I will focus on options that have 3 functions:

  1. Decorative brick. It is used to decorate the room, the fire burns for aesthetics and a slight warming of the room (if it is closed).
  2. For heating and decoration - a long burning stove with a transparent door.
  3. For cooking and decoration - in this case, the fireplace is a barbecue, barbecue and oven combined. Most often it is confused with the furnace complex.

Decorative fireplace - small, beautiful, cozy

Infrequently, this option is used in gazebos. In this case, this fire is a usual element of decor, for which it is necessary:

  • Build an additional foundation.
  • Make a masonry.
  • Chimney out.

Additionally, you still need to periodically clean soot and remove ashes. On the other hand, we get a solid attribute of the interior, flooding which you can achieve a wonderful atmosphere - the silence around and the noise of crackling firewood, isn’t it wonderful?

“You won’t even fry meat” is the main argument of people who abandoned the usual decor in favor of a barbecue fireplace for cooking. Therefore, most people are not ready to invest so seriously in an open source of fire in order to simply enjoy it indoors.

In this case, there is enough barbecue on the street for frying meat, where the fire burns and the coals crack.

Stove fireplace long burning

An interesting option for indoor. Thanks to the special design, this unit will not only illuminate the room with fire, but also warm it from the inside. I would not say that such installations look extremely aesthetically pleasing and always "fit" into the gazebo, but they have their own advantages:

  • Don't take up much space
  • They are much cheaper than brick fireplaces,
  • Really warm - this is a weighty argument for a closed gazebo.

I did not initially consider a similar format for this article. Most likely, most are considering installing a brick fireplace in the arbor, but decided to leave it to supplement. Moreover, some options look very impressive. They are presented below in the photo.

Barbecue fireplace with barbecue and stove

This option is much more popular among the population. The fire burns, the coals smolder, the meat is fried, and pilaf can also be cooked on the stove if the stove complex is designed for this. At first glance, some advantages. But, on the other hand, there is one noticeable and main minus.

Such a fireplace for cooking will cost a lot of money. In some cases, more expensive than the gazebo itself.

Here the thought process is already beginning: “But do I really need such a complex? Is the brazier enough to fry the barbecue? Maybe put it on the car ... ” Around this format people think, whose budget is limited.

Such construction is relatively expensive for a gazebo, where people gather periodically on weekends to relax.

Which option is better to choose

A fireplace with barbecue and stove, as already mentioned, is quite expensive, and its construction is not always appropriate. Nevertheless, such a construction can be very advisable when there is a specific goal.

I was convinced of this by the example of Nikolai Tarasov, who built a closed gazebo with a fireplace, barbecue and stove in one and was pleased with his construction (for more details, see the article - Closed gazebo with barbecue, barbecue, do-it-yourself stove: material calculation, photo, video )

The construction of such a complex is advisable when there is a specific need for its use.

The main goal is cooking with his wife, as they really like this process. Therefore, if you are also a cooking fan and are ready to invest in the construction of a large complex, this is your chance.

Leave only at least a little open fire in the stove complex, or even nothing will remain of the fireplace 🙂.

A completely different question is when you need a decorative element to decorate the gazebo with open fire. Or you love emotional conversations to a crunch of firewood. In general, your need also plays a role here. If you really need this element, then feel free to build a decorative fireplace.

Photos of beautiful fireplaces in the gazebos

Below will be a selection of photographs that depict fireplaces in different styles. If you want to choose any option for your gazebo and are looking for an idea for construction, then I recommend that you familiarize yourself with them.

The photo shows completely different in material, high cost and style of the gazebo.

DIY construction

The maximum detail this issue was addressed in the article do-it-yourself fireplace. In this publication, I tried to select as many photographs of the finished options as possible, and the construction process itself was transferred to another article.

It seems to me that most people who are considering the option of installing a fireplace in their gazebo will not engage in self-construction and are more likely to simply give the money to the craftsmen.

However, even among ordinary summer residents there are people who are ready to seriously approach this issue. If you have an opinion on the construction on your own, then feel free to leave a comment on either this or the publication that describes the construction process.

This topic is quite nontrivial and has many points of view.

Types of furnace

In the pursuit of the opportunity to prepare spicy food, summer residents overlook other features of the fireplace-grill:

  1. firstly, the thematic device can heat the gazebo,
  2. secondly, with a hearth inside a summer cottage, it is lighter and more comfortable.

Therefore, when choosing a furnace, you will have to make a choice between the following designs:

  • Open metal barbecue - quickly heats up and cools, suitable for carrying and transporting,
  • Closed brick fireplace - heats up and cools for a long time, is a stationary product.

The latter option takes up a lot of space and weighs a lot in itself. These features require the builder to build an additional foundation.

But inside the substrate, you can arrange a pipe to improve traction. In addition, a closed fireplace grill removes smoke through the chimney.

Although most metal barbecue facilities have an open fryer, an extractor hood can be arranged above them. However, this requirement must be observed when the metal fireplace is inside the gazebo (otherwise the smoke will spread throughout the space).

Actual projects

There is an opinion that the hearth is suitable only for certain arbors. In fact, even close shelter can be supplemented with barbecue. After all, the latter may be located at a distance from the shelter. True, then the metal model is not protected from precipitation.

Therefore, summer residents increasingly prefer to arrange furnaces inside the following structures:

  • Frame wooden structures,
  • Finnish grill and chalet houses,
  • Log cabins,
  • Forged and brick counterparts.

The seasonality of the gazebo does not matter - the fireplace is suitable for both open and closed structures. But in no case should you fill the space with the so-called. soft windows.

The fact is that a transparent vinyl coating can deform and become condensed due to the temperature difference between the external and internal environment. In addition, a burning smell may occur inside the arbor.

In the gazebos with the stove there must be open apertures or glazing with swing-out flaps for ventilation.

Self-erection of the furnace

If the metal barbecue can be purchased in finished condition, then the brick analogue must be erected independently before the arbor is sheathed.

The main building material for the construction of a stationary furnace is fireclay brick. But we must not forget about the foundation, which is a continuous platform of a drainage layer (sand and gravel) and concrete mortar.

As a result, the construction of the furnace occurs in several stages:

  • First, a 25-centimeter pit rummages,
  • Further, the recess is filled with a 2-4 cm drainage layer,
  • The pit is supplemented with formwork, which is filled with concrete mortar,
  • After 2-day drying of the mortar, a brick firebox with a height of 70-80 cm is placed on top of the foundation,
  • A grill is placed on top of the firebox,
  • A pedestal is placed above the grill (height 60-70 cm),
  • The furnace, depending on its complexity, is complemented by a cauldron, countertop, doors, etc.

It is very important that the chimney is located above the highest point of the roof. Otherwise, the thrust will leave much to be desired. Moreover, the pedestal and chimney is better to build from refractory bricks.

A brick oven does not require a protective screen, like a metal one. However, the walls of the stationary model should not be narrow. Therefore, they are erected in two or three continuous rows. The thickness of the seams is the same everywhere - 3-4 mm. But the width and depth of the furnace are different - equal to the length of at least six and three bricks, respectively.

In conclusion

A gazebo with a stove complements summer holidays with spicy food. And if this rest takes place in winter, then there can be no talk of any cold.
